the history
of our CHURCH

Step into the captivating journey of Cedar Mill Community Church, where generosity has been changing lives since its humble beginnings in 1940. It all started when William Scofield and Clara, his wife, opened their home for an adult Bible study. The flame of faith spread rapidly, and in just three years, Rev. Simon E. Forsberg answered the calling to become the pastor of this devoted group, meeting at Wesleyan Chapel.

In 1945, the ministry embraced a new name, Cedar Mill Community Church, signifying its growing presence and mission within the community. The church flourished, and by 1948, the first service was held on the very land where our church stands today.

In 1960, the chapel was built, becoming a sacred space that witnessed countless prayers, sermons, and moments of spiritual transformation. As the years passed, the church's influence expanded through the power of small groups, vibrant youth programs, and impactful mission outreach, both locally and globally. Ahead of its time, Cedar Mill engaged in children and youth sports activities such as hiking, camping, basketball, softball, archery, and various clubs, paving the way for active community involvement.

As the congregation grew and the chapel overflowed with faithful members, Sunday services began to grace the gymnasium, bridging the two spaces through an underground tunnel. The year 2000 marked a significant milestone as the worship center was constructed, becoming the heart of Sunday gatherings ever since. Throughout this remarkable transformation, Cedar Mill has been led by five devoted pastors, and many families have left an enduring legacy within our church. For numerous seniors, Cedar Mill has been their spiritual home from a young age, where they raised their children and now witness their children raising their own families.

In 2003, Cedar Mill extended its reach by planting Solid Rock: A Jesus Church, sending nearly 200 individuals on a mission to spread the love of Christ. This church plant has since flourished into 26 West Church, Bridgetown Church, and other thriving communities nationwide. Furthermore, our dedication to embracing diversity and inclusion led us to establish a ministry for Spanish speakers, providing a place of worship and connection in the chapel on Sunday mornings.

We are honored to have Pastor Dave Teixeira serving as our lead pastor since September 2013. Together, we embrace generosity as a transformative force, impacting lives within our congregation and beyond. Join us in this incredible story of faith, love, and compassion as we make a difference at Cedar Mill Bible Church.
