Women of the Word

(WOW)

Women of the Word would love to be part of your journey with Jesus! Join us as we study God’s word, support one another in prayer, and share our lives as sisters in Christ.

What is Women of the word?

While registration has closed, we do have an ongoing waitlist! Please email Mary Anne if you are interested in being added to the waitlist.

Each Tuesday morning (9-11 AM), we’ll examine and consider God’s Word and support each other in prayer and fellowship as we grow personally and as sisters in Christ.

Small groups of up to 12 women meet from 9-10:30 to pray and share in a discussion of the weekly study, and all groups meet together at 10:30 for a “wrap-up talk” by one of our speakers. This year we will be studying the book of James.

A children’s program (ABC Kids) is provided for children 5 and under.

Our Driving Purpose includes:

  • Growing in our understanding of who God is.

  • Closely examining God’s Word, allowing His Word to closely examine our hearts/lives.

  • Growing in our personal relationship with God.

  • Opportunities to share what we have discovered and learned in our personal Bible study.

  • Encouraging one another by sharing how God is at work in our lives.

  • Sharing each other’s joys and burdens in prayer.

  • Demonstrating love for one another as sisters in Christ Jesus.

This community seeks to develop:

  • Openness:  by honesty and vulnerability

  • Acceptance:  affirming one another

  • Listening: honoring with attention

  • Graciousness:  speaking kindly

  • Self-discipline:  lessons completed

  • Confidentiality: what is spoken in each group remains in the group

  • Courtesy:  by punctuality

  • Service:  seeking out ways to serve, bringing God-given gifts to the table

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I have never studied God’s Word. Can I still come?

YES! God’s Word is alive and active- we all learn, all the time!

I’m not sure what I believe. Is this a place for me?

YES! Ask questions, and explore what it means to be a follower of Jesus in a safe, welcoming, no-pressure environment!

My life is messy/busy/unpredictable. What if I don’t get my study done for the week? Do I need to catch up before I come back?

While the hope is that women come with the lesson done, we all have circumstances from time to time that keep us from doing so. Come anyway!! Your presence is vital to your group!

I’ve been burned in small groups before. Is there a standard of confidentiality?

Yes! The need and expectation for confidentiality and discretion are repeated throughout the year. What is said in the group, remains in the group.

What about inclement weather? Do you still meet?

We follow the Beaverton School District's inclement weather plan. If the schools are on a two-hour delay or closed, WOW will not meet. We also have a three-week break in December and a week in March for Spring Break.
